More Information

Description Christmas fern (or Polystichum acrostichoides) is a festive evergreen fern that looks vibrant in your landscape all year long, even in frigid winter temperatures! Leathery, dark green fronds emerge as coiled fiddleheads in spring. They keep their handsome hues all season long with little to no maintenance whatsoever. While it's fun to imagine this fern as part of the holidays, it's actually named "Christmas fern" because it still looks green in December.

Christmas ferns are reliable and easy to grow perennials in the garden. It grows well in nearly any soil, resists deer and rabbits, and is low maintenance. Once established, it's surprisingly drought tolerant as well! Try planting this graceful fern in your rock, woodland, or shade gardens for four seasons of interest.

Great Christmas Ferns

The Christmas Ferns we received were outstanding quality. Because of their evergreen character, they look good in the woods in our front yard even when just planted. Not to worry that they are snipped back a bit. They look good. We will order more!

Received a Ghost Fern Instead

I ordered a Christmas fern but received a Ghost Fern which is lovely. I tried to reorder the Christmas fern, but it is sold out. Perhaps the Ghost fern was a substitute. I did find a perfect place for it and since I have a very specific place for the Christmas fern, I’ll reorder it next season.

Hello! We apologize that you received the wrong plant. We do not make substitutions without contacting our customers first. Again, we're sorry for the shipping mistake, but are happy to hear that you found a place for your new fern. If you have any additional questions or concerns, our customer service team is always happy to make things right. Feel free to contact us at info@greatgardenplants.com. Happy Gardening!
