Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

I really love Great Garden Plants - their selection, pricing, shipping and guarantees. But I gotta say that I've already gotten replacements for this spirea (I ordered 9 of them and they arrived on the edge of life and were kindly replaced) but even after all that and caring for them diligently since last year, it's a bust. I'm a master gardener and also grow many other spireas. But these guys just struggled to get established. Out of the 9 replacements, I've only got 2 that are leafing out. The rest are likely dead although I keep holding out hope that they may spontaneously come back. I'm sure the ones that are showing vibrance will be stunning shrubs. But I won't have my showstopper mini hedge I had planned. Just a couple of randomly placed shrubs.

I had one out of 13 plants. It doesn’t look real good but I’m thinking I’m hoping it’ll make it. I’ll let you know next spring other than that all of them seem to be doing well thank you.
I originally ordered these guys (9 of them!) earlier this year, and they arrived completely wiped out and fried - likely from the heat during transport. I took pics and contacted CS right away, and they responded immediately and offered to replace them but asked if they could wait to do it when things started to cool off. I thought that was fair and although I'll miss enjoying them in the garden this season, the new ones arrived fresh and happy and are in their new homes ready to get a jump on next year. I appreciate their responsiveness and support. I will be ordering again.... very soon!
I ordered three initially, and they all arrived so pretty and healthy! Within two weeks, they faded and died. I ordered three more, and only one of the three arrived healthy. The other two were crispy and dried up. I'm doing everything to try to keep them going, but I'm not sure they are going to make it either.

My plants just arrived looking healthy and happy. I was worried about the shipment in this heat but they were packaged well and still moist. I'll plant them in a couple of days. I hope they like clay soil..this is TN after all. :)
