Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

White bottlebrush flowers bloom in spring and boast a sweet and spicy fragrance that fills the garden. Thick blue-green leaves fill in during summer and take on brilliant red, orange, and yellow hues as they mature into fall. Dwarf Fothergilla fits this multi-seasonal interest into a small, dense mounded form. Its compact habit makes it an excellent option for hedges and borders. Fertilizing: Not required. If more rapid growth is desired, apply an all-purpose fertilizer in spring.

Maintenance & pruning: Little pruning is required, but if you do wish to prune, do so immediately after flowering. Avoid cutting into thick stems unless removing them entirely, as they are slow to recover.

Growing well!

I purchased 2 of these spring 2021. They survived a zone 5 winter and a dog leash brushing over them every day. There were no blooms this spring but I wasn’t expecting any in their first year. The fall color is beautiful!! I have them in part sun as some of my foundation shrubs.

Dwarf Fothergilla

Hate to leave a rating as it's hard to know where the problem lies. Plants all looked great when they arrived. I planted them all on the same day, on the same tier of the garden. All received the same care. One is dead, one is dying (fingers crossed), and the third is doing well. I'll see how the ill one does and we may reorder.
