Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description What makes Alchemilla mollis, or lady's mantle, stand out from the rest? Their scalloped, circular leaves hold water droplets that glisten in the sun in early mornings or following rain. Above the foliage, hundreds of airy sprays of chartreuse blooms appear in early summer. Blooms are upright at first, then eventually cascade as they age.  These long-lasting blooms make a perfect addition to your cut flower bouquets. There are many places Alchemilla will fit perfectly in your garden, but it looks best beneath maple trees or in the foreground to other flowering shrubs. Though relatively low maintenance, it quickly spreads when allowed to self-seed, and may require pulling seedlings to keep it controlled.   Details Botanical name: Alchemilla mollis

 How To Grow Soil: Easily grown in average, moist, and well-drained soils.
Light: Sun to part sun, but tolerates close to full shade. Prefers part afternoon shade in hot summer climates such as the southern half of the US.
Water: Moderate moisture needs. It is relatively drought tolerant but happiest in moist, well-draining soils.
Spacing: 1-2 feet apart
Fertilizing: Supplemental feeding is not necessary unless you have infertile soil. If so, a handful of slow-release organic fertilizer can be applied in spring when new growth emerges.
Winterizing:  As a semi-evergreen, it will overwinter better if left intact and then cleaned up in the spring.
Maintenance & pruning: The only maintenance needed is an occasional cleanup. Deadhead the flowers as they start to dry and remove older leaves as they brown. Tends to freely self-seed in the garden to the point of being somewhat invasive in optimum growing conditions. Removing spent flowers will prevent self-seeding. Plants can be divided as needed in spring.

Good follow-up service

I ordered three Lady’s Mantle plants. Two were beautiful, but one was almost totally dried out and withered: it looked as if it was not watered. Efore shipping. Beautiful Perennial

My plants came well packaged and lush with tons of foliage! They had a small amount of powdery mildew starting but I took care of that quickly with some care and cut back, they got used to our very warm summer weather quickly in the shade on my front porch, and now they’re happily in the ground in a part shade area. My first lady’s mantle plant from this site COOKED in a full sun spot in my garden here in Missouri 6b, so definitely recommend part shade if you get HOT summer days. Can’t wait to experience these plants in bloom!!!
