More Information

Description With dark magenta red flowers, 'Montgomery' astilbe ( Astilbe japonica ) adds a splash of color to part sun and shade gardens, right where it's needed the most. Fluffy plumes of flowers appear in midsummer, just a bit earlier than other astilbes. Its foliage continues to add interest from spring to fall. Emerging in spring, the leaves carry a bronze-red hue before turning a deep glossy green.

Astilbes pair perfectly with coral bells and hostas in shade gardens, where they attract pollinators and deter deer. While they can grow in full shade, they produce more blooms in light shade or filtered sun. While they're easy to grow, the key to success is keeping them moist (or even wet), especially in full sun. If you notice your plants are developing brown edges, it's time to crank up the sprinkler. Deadhead your plants for a tidy appearance, or skip sheering to enjoy textured spent flowers through winter!

some blossomed

The plants arrived looking great, and I immediately put them in the garden and did the appropriate watering. As of now, only one has shown any chance of blooming with a single skinny flower emerging. As of now, none of the others have shown any chance of blooming.

We're sorry you're having trouble with your plants. Plants can often experience something calles transpant shock when they are not acclimated properly before being planted in the ground. After unboxing, we recommed plants be placed in a cool, shaded spot out of direct sunlight for 24-48 hours after unpacking them. This allows them a recovery and acclimation period before planting. Our customer service team would love to hear from you, so please contact us at claims@greatgardenplants.com with your order number and photos of the plants. All orders are covered by our 60-day guarantee. We look forward to helping!
