Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

How To Grow Soil: Good drainage is a must, especially in shaded areas.
Light: Thrives in the shade and very colorful varieties will get better color in part sun. The color can wash out in full sun, and too much heat and light can cause the leaves to scorch.
Water: Keep the soil evenly moist, but not consistently wet to prevent root rot.
Spacing: 30 - 34" apart
Fertilizing: An application of all-purpose of garden fertilizer can be applied in spring.

Little guys but getting bigger

My first two plants arrived in bad shape but Great Garden Plants came through on their 60-day guarantee with no fuss. I then purchased four Peachberry Ice huechera plants and they arrived just fine. They do come small and take time to grow but all four are building roots and getter bigger slowly but surely. I have no reservation ordering from Great Garden Plants knowing they stand by their word.

The plants were potted in a very fragile medium that falls apart when you take the plant out of the pot so the plants struggle upon planting and the leaves end up laying on the ground and getting wet when watering. A couple of plants were really struggling upon arrival. The colors are vivid though not as bright as pictured. I hope they all survive and come back next year and are as colorful in real life as the photos shown.
