Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

I only purchased one, as I had already ordered six from another company. I needed one more, but they were sold out. The plant I received from Great Gardens was a little straggly, light green, with a couple of yellow leaves. Not at all like the lush green ones from the other online nursery. I planted it right away and have my fingers crossed that it will thrive. Not sure at this point. Too soon to say. 🤞
Being close, my shipment comes the next day, which is great from the plants. After many orders, I must say, the plants are small, but they are ready to leap into immediate growth, without the stress of trying to maintain too many large leaves or blooms.
Two things I’d like to comment on:
I’d love to receive the plants without the staples holding the tied plastic bags. I don’t know it I can recycle them, plus it’s so much harder to get the bag off with cutting a plant. One shipment contained three plants without the staples. Soil stayed in place, and the bag came off easily.
And, I sure would like to have plant markers in each plant. Some come with them, but most don’t. The red sticky tag will never last in the ground, and handwritten tags fade. For this much money, please include tags. We forget what we have where!!
Thanks for excellent plants!!
I received all 5 plants in good condition and healthy shape. I planted them 2 days after receiving them and they are currently thriving and flowering nicely. All plants have multiple flowers. This is the first time I've used Butterfly Bushes and I'm very happy with my experience.
I’ve order two separate times two different cone flower colors both colors are wrong. I have orange and white which I’ve never ordered. The plants are flowering and in good shape. It’s hard to take advantage of a 60 day guarantee when it takes months or years to flower.

I was very excited about this flower. I had to use pots this year because of some yard work we’re doing. I don’t think this pot drain very well and it got too much water and croaked. I’ll try it again next year.
