Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

After its blooms are over, the tidy evergreen foliage takes center stage, staying a vivid, deep green color until next spring. Its mounded low-ground habit makes it a dense ground cover along pathways or hedges. We can't say enough great things about this versatile perennial!

Candytuft is an ideal accent to spring-flowering bulbs or planted as a low-maintenance ground cover to outcompete weeds. This member of the broccoli family has delicate evergreen foliage, so you can count on it to work hard all season long. Once established, it's quite drought-tolerant and deer-resistant.  How To Grow Soil: Easily grown in average to sandy, well-drained, alkaline soil.
Light: Sun (> 6 hours sun). Flowering will be more prolific in full sun, but some afternoon shade is appreciated in hot climates.
Water: Average. Prefers a well-drained site, so avoid heavy clay soils that stay wet in winter. Drought tolerant once established.
Spacing: Spreads 18-24 inches wide after a couple of growing seasons.
Fertilizing: A slow-release fertilizer at the beginning of the spring is sufficient. These plants will grow well without too much attention to feeding.
Winterizing: No special care is needed.
Maintenance & pruning: Perennial iberis should be sheared back by 1/3 after blooming to induce branching, but otherwise leave plants alone in fall and early spring.
