Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Great viburnum!

2 years later and these are already almost 4 feet tall! Lovely viburnum that is tough here in Texas and pretty in both sun and shade. Great burgundy tones in fall. Love this plant!

Very nice, well rooted plants. Highly optimistic for year 3!

I put in one, purchased directly from PW in 09/20, and it's just this season really taking off (sleep, creep, leap really evidencing itself with this plant). This is a plus in my book, having spent no small amount of effort digging out a couple of rampant, suckering, monster-blob shrubs in other parts of the yard. The several additional ones I've subsequently ordered here look great and will be perfect for my purposes: spaced along a fence to provide additional privacy & sound blocking... with the added benefit of flowers for bees & maybe even hummers!
